Growing children and a growing garden

A child picks a mango in the Children of Faith Garden

We’re growing a garden at our home and the children help to tend it. We have several fruit trees giving us mangos, guava, coconut, papaya. We grow vegetables too, including tomato, chile, lemon, gongura (sour leaves), and coriander leaves.

We are growing Moringa too. The shrub, also known as the drumstick-tree, is a popular ingredient in curries. We use a lot of chiles to make the spicy food India is known for. The children especially love curries made from papaya and coconut.

We love to have fresh ingredients for our meals. While our plants get lots of water in the monsoon season the children help water the rest of the year. They are amazed to see how things grow and so proud when its time to harvest.
