Rainy Days at Children of Faith

Its been raining quite a lot at Children of Faith lately. The rainy season for the state of Andhra Pradesh is July to September or early October. So there are many more rainy days ahead. Visakhapatnam, where Children of Faith is located, averages 44 inches of rain per year.

In my village during the rainy season we are scared because many fall sick and get fevers, but here we are always well. I don't like the rains.

Cleanliness is important during the rain, and heavy rain can be unsafe on local roads. If the rain is hard, school might be closed as roads are not safe for the teachers to travel to the home.

The weather is cooler when it rains which is great, it is nice to have a break from the hot and humid weather. It is challenging though when it rains and the children have to be indoors. We make sure the children take care of themselves and wash their hands thourighly to prevent spread of diseases.

It isn’t easy to keep 120 children occupied when they can’t go outside to play. They play board games, assemble puzzles, have time to watch TV and some sing songs. Here a look at a recent rainy day when the boys enjoyed some indoor games.

Boys play a tradtional Indian game on rainy days at Children of Faith in India

Ludo (above) is a popular strategy game in India. Our children like to play this colorful board game in which they race tokens by rolling the dice game. Another game that is popular at Children of Faith is Carrom Board (pictures on the left). This is a table top game of Indian origin in which players flick discs, attempting to knock them to the corners of the board. Of course checkers, chess and other popular American board games are played at the Home as well.

Rainy days can bring out creativity in the children, finding their own ways to pass the time till school and outside play such as cricket can resume. Boys might be seen splashing in puddles or making paper boats to float in the streams.

I like rains and I like to play in rain. In my village all the farmers like rain as it is good for crops

Your donations can help us make rainy days more fun!

Your donations to our general fund make our work possible. Our sponsors help us feed and clothe the children and provide tuition for college students, but we rely on donations to our general fund for the special extras that make Children of Faith feel like home. We couldn’t keep transforming the lives of young people in India without these additional donations, please help us however you can.
